This image represents where are I am on my journey to understand the issues of human rights better, to find out the ways in which I can get involved and to pursue justice for the millions of people out there who cannot seek justice for themselves. They deserve a voice, but sadly more often than not, not only can their voice not be heard, it can’t be used at all. We all deserve to have food, water and shelter each day and we deserve to feel safe. How millions of people have never known things? For me, I dont want for anything. I have a roof over my head, food on the table, a loving husband and two beautiful children. They wake in the morning and their biggest concern is who will get to lick the maple syrup spoon after I administer a puny amount to their weetabix because we don’t do refined sugar, only unrefined because its the best. We are safe and we are sound. But for millions out there life is a deep valley of poverty and pain, hunger and thirst, violence and fear. I don’t want to be so busy trying to work out how to cook quinoa that I miss hearing a story on the news about a child who has been rescued from slavery. I want to be rescuing that child myself. So, for today, I stand at my starting line and say, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”, Hebrews 12 v 1.
